No.1 The Single Drag

The Single Drag. One of the original 26 snare drum rudiments.Written in an open style first. The top line should be practiced about 40 BPM to start.Keep sticks about 4 to 6 inches above pad. The 'triangle' above notes, indicates."Stick to be brought up for accent AFTER, playing soft 4-6 inch tap", do not anticipate playing this tap, be sure to drop it from 4-6 inch height, then grip the stick and lift it for the accent. Continue this as you increase speed. Once rudiment is learned, in a open closed style, you can continue, with exercises. Good luck and have fun!.....Bill Rotella

No.4 Permutated Paradiddles & Para-triplets

Permutaion, playing a rhythm, such as paradiddles, and shifting the beat. Featuring the Single Paradiddle, and Para-Triplets. The idea,is to play a rhythm, such as a Paradiddles, keeping time with your Bass, then shifting the Paradiddle accent one note. This will cause the Paradiddles to be syncopated, while the beat remains. Then shift another note, and again keep the beat steady, and so on. The Para-Triplets, are Paradiddles in triplet rhythm. Do the same here, keep a steady beat, and shift the accent of the Para-Triplet.Great for control! Have fun....Bill
